Oracle Fusion Smart View Setup Guide — Install, Configure & Run Ad Hoc Analysis in Excel

How to Configure Oracle Fusion Smart View in Excel — Step-by-Step

If your organization uses Oracle Fusion Cloud and you want powerful ad hoc reporting inside Excel, Oracle Smart View is the recommended add-in. This guide walks through installation, configuration, connection, and performing Ad Hoc Analysis with Smart View — with actionable screenshots and the exact Smart View URL pattern to use.

Why use Smart View? (Benefits)

  • Work with real-time Oracle Fusion data directly in Excel.
  • Create flexible Ad Hoc Analysis and financial reports without manual exports.
  • Seamless drill-down to Oracle Essbase and Cloud ERP data for fast decision making.

Prerequisites

  • Valid Oracle Fusion Cloud credentials with access to reporting tools.
  • Microsoft Excel (supported version for Smart View add-in).
  • Network access to your Oracle Fusion instance endpoint.

Step 1 — Download Smart View from Oracle Fusion

  1. Log in to Oracle Fusion Cloud as an administrator or user with access to Setup & Maintenance.
  2. Go to Setup & Maintenance > Tasks > Manage Allocations and Periodic entries (or the corresponding task that includes the Smart View link in your instance).
  3. From the Tools menu select Install Smart View. Oracle will redirect you to the Oracle Delivery download page where you can download the Smart View package for Microsoft Office.

Step 2 — Install Smart View

  1. Extract the downloaded folder and run the installer (follow standard Windows install prompts).
  2. After installation, open Excel. You should see a new Smart View tab in the ribbon.

Step 3 — Configure Smart View with your Oracle Fusion URL

Open Excel > Smart View > Options > Advanced. In the Advanced options paste your Smart View provider URL like the example below.

https://<your-instance>.fa.ocs.oraclecloud.com/workspace/SmartViewProviders

Example (replace with your instance name):

https://iacbey-test.fa.ocs.oraclecloud.com/workspace/SmartViewProviders
Note: If your organization uses a custom tenant domain or a different region, adjust the host portion (<your-instance>) accordingly. Always verify the full path ends with /workspace/SmartViewProviders.

Step 4 — Sign in and open Shared Connections

  1. From the Smart View ribbon click Panel.
  2. Choose Shared Connections and enter your Oracle Fusion credentials to sign in.
  3. Once signed in, select Oracle Essbase (or the service your administrator has exposed) and pick your relevant Chart of Accounts (COA) or application.

Step 5 — Run Ad Hoc Analysis

  1. Choose Ad Hoc Analysis inside the Smart View panel.
  2. A worksheet will open showing COA segments (or the metadata from your chosen application).
  3. Use Member Selection to filter and bring in the exact members (dimensions) you need for analysis.
  4. Use Excel functionality (pivoting, formulas, charts) with live-connected Smart View data.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If Smart View tab is missing: confirm the add-in is enabled via Excel > File > Options > Add-Ins.
  • Login failures: verify credentials, tenant name in URL, and that your account has the required reporting privileges.
  • Slow responses: check network latency to the Oracle Cloud endpoint or raise with your IT team.

Best Practices

  • Save bookmarked Shared Connections within Smart View to speed future access.
  • Use named ranges and templates in Excel for repeatable Ad Hoc reports.
  • Coordinate with your Oracle Cloud admin to ensure the correct security and data provider endpoints are available for Smart View users.
